Lesson 1 of 3
Building a major chord
Build any major triad from its root using a major third and a perfect fifth.
A major chord has three notes: the root, the major third and the perfect fifth.
Count semitones (one key at a time, including black keys). From the root, go up 4 semitones for the major third, then 3 more for the fifth — 7 in total.
For C major: C → E (4 semitones) → G (7 semitones from C).
